The cal­en­dar, one of the tools amongst those we used to man­age pro­duc­tiv­ity is often abuse.  Plan­ning is intrin­sic in our behav­iour.  It requires self-discipline.  It must be part of our habit.  When the cal­en­dar is abused, instead of achiev­ing pro­duc­tiv­ity, we stum­ble with man­ag­ing mul­ti­ple cal­en­dars, hurt­ing our over­all pro­duc­tiv­ity.  It doesn’t mat­ter if you pre­fer low tech paper cal­en­dars or high tech elec­tronic ones; it is not impor­tant with the design or the type of spe­cial entries you can use with the cal­en­dar.  The most impor­tant thing is that you are most com­fort­able using, the faster in using it and the most con­sis­tently you can keep up with it. The value of plan­ning can­not be under­es­ti­mated.  Every­day, we are immersed doing some form of task or the other.   We need to work effec­tively and pro­duce out­put on time.  Daily and weekly plan­ning are essen­tial to cre­ate enough time for us to man­age our time at work and at home.  Plan­ning include time for work, busi­ness, fam­ily and health con­cerns.  Plan­ning allows us to have a clear path for our­selves that main­tains a bal­ance of work and play.

STOP ALL the Interruptions!!

We often get inter­rupts at work.  And times they can be very counter-productive when we put aside our cur­rent tasks to address the inter­rupts.  Part of our time spent on inter­rupts hurts our per­sonal pro­duc­tiv­ity.    Many inter­rupts are avoid­able with advance plan­ning.  The bet­ter you plan ahead, the fewer the “crises” will arise.  Think, are all inter­rupts urgent?  Some­times, sit­u­a­tions can be han­dled at a later and some­times it gets “resolved” by its own.…  How do we get our­selves to han­dle inter­rupts effec­tively?
